Abalone is farmed in all the southern ocean states, WA, SA, Vic and Tas. All AAGA members farm abalone onshore with abalone bred on site. Two species are grown, Greenlip (Haliotis laevigata), and Tiger Abalone a cross between Greenlip and Blacklip (Haliotis rubra).
Our abalone are fed on specially formulated grain based abalone diets that have been developed and refined over the years through FRDC funded projects.

- Value of Production, c. $50 million.
- Production is projected to increase to 2,000T by 2025.
AAGA invests heavily in RD&E via our IPA (Industry Partnership Agreement) with FRDC (Fisheries Research and Development Corporation). Investments are made in the best interests of our members in line with the AAGA Strategic Plan 2020-2025
